Food of United States

American cooking is a patchwork of regional traditions shaped by Native American ingredients and the foods of immigrants from around the world. Corn, beef, chicken, potatoes and wheat anchor the table, with smoky barbecue in the South, seafood chowders in New England, Tex-Mex in the Southwest and fresh fish in Hawaii. Meals range from backyard cookouts and diner breakfasts to big family dinners with many shared dishes.
