Recipe

Make Waldorf salad at home

Serves 4-6Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 crisp red apples, diced
  • 3 celery stalks, sliced
  • 1 cup seedless grapes, halved
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, toasted and chopped
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Lettuce leaves to serve

How it's made

  1. Toast the walnuts in a dry pan for 3 minutes until fragrant, then cool.
  2. Whisk mayonnaise, yogurt, lemon juice, honey and a pinch of salt.
  3. Dice the apples and toss at once with the dressing so they do not brown.
  4. Fold in celery, grapes and most of the walnuts.
  5. Chill 20 minutes.
  6. Spoon onto lettuce leaves and top with remaining walnuts.

Variations

  • With chicken: add shredded cooked chicken for a main dish.
  • Lighter: all yogurt dressing.
  • Raisin Waldorf: use raisins in place of grapes.

Cook’s tip: Choose firm apples like Honeycrisp or Gala that stay crunchy.
