Food of Portugal

Portuguese cuisine relies on the Atlantic: salted cod, sardines, octopus and shellfish, along with olive oil, garlic, bread and sausages. Inland there are hearty stews, roast kid and pork, while pastries and egg-based sweets are a national passion. Coffee and a pastry are a daily ritual and meals are unhurried and generous.
