Food of Dominican Republic

Dominican cooking is built on rice, beans, plantains and slow-simmered meats, with Spanish, African and Taino influences. Sofrito of garlic, onion and peppers seasons almost everything, and the midday meal, la bandera, brings rice, beans and stewed meat together. Sweets lean on coconut, sweet potato and milk.
