  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup refried red beans

How it's made

  2. Divide into 6 balls and roll out into thin circles.
  3. Cook each on a hot dry skillet for about 1 minute per side until lightly browned and puffed.
  4. Spread each with warm beans.
  5. Add cheese, cream and any extras.
  6. Fold in half and serve right away.

Variations

  • Baleada con huevo: with scrambled egg.
  • Baleada especial: with avocado and meat.
  • Vegetarian: beans and avocado only.

Cook’s tip: Thin the beans with a spoon of water so they spread easily.
